Reflection
What the project was about
Our group art projects lesson plan integrates cultural understanding while incorporating technology. We created our lesson plan about making masks of native cultures. At first, we decided that it is preferred to do their own culture but then we were thinking, what if the majority of the class was one race, such as Latino. In the end, we decided that they are welcome to choose whichever culture they want to create a mask of, including the same culture repeated because no two masks will be the same. The class will learn more about their cultures and of their peers as well as others around the world. The technology we used was a Google App which is Pear Deck. It is a special presentation app where the class is able to see, write comments and interact with features that the teacher has previously set up. The instructor will have a results spreadsheet in the end where you can see everyone’s individual actions.
Working with my group
Overall I liked working in my group because we were able to merge ideas that we each separately had. A particular member of the group was very motivated and took the lead. From the beginning, she decided what the group’s art lesson plan was going to be with what app and all of us agreed. We split all responsibilities and in the end, we helped each other by tying all of the work together. What I found difficult about the group project is cohering everyone’s time. It is understandable everyone has different times throughout the week because of work or school. Arranging a meeting time when we were all available was difficult but we manage to do it. I enjoyed working with the members in my group.
What I Learned
I obtain a new art project to add to my list of art lesson plans. I enjoyed working on two examples and I was pleased with my final results. My understanding from my satisfaction makes me sure students will be interested in such a project as well. I learned about other cultures and their traditions, as my students will. I also learned about a new app I am able to use as a teacher to enhance the experience of the art class. I am pleased with the group project, the lesson plan, and our individual Recycled Materials Heritage Masks.
